#9 great big bertha wood

Question
How many yards can an average 16 handicap golfer hit this #9 wood?

Answer
Boni:  Answering your question is difficult if not impossible due to the fact there really is not an average 16 handicapper.  I've played with 16s that hit the ball farther than I do but most do not.  And people can be 16s for several different reasons; some cannot hit the ball accurately and save themselves with a decent short game, while others are just the opposite.  Variations in the many features of the club will affect distances as well.  For instance, club head design, composition, weight and flexibility of the shaft and overall club weight will all affect distance.

How far someone else might hit a 9 wood should not concern you because of the many variables listed above.  A better way to figure this out is to use your own statistics.

The 9 wood has roughly the same loft as the 9 iron but is around 3 inches longer so you can expect to hit it farther.  Let's say there's 7 to 10 yards difference in the distance you hit each club.  There are 8 clubs between your driver and the 9 wood, so you can expect to hit the 9 wood between 56 to 80 yards less than your driver.

Good luck Boni; I hope this has been helpful.
