Question
Hi Ken good luck on this mess.I am currently trending a 2.3index,Im right handed 6'1 265 currently got fitted for some r7 tps irons, that put me in a 2'degree flat.it seems I have lost distance with the new irons,I normally hit my 7 iron 165 now with the new club I hit it 155. also the shots tend to balloon more,no matter if I play it forward or back.its getting a little frustrating.looking forward to the advice . thanks

Answer
Hi Craig,

So, we're about the same index. I go through my periods of not hitting the ball as far as normal. That could be part of your problem.

The more likely cause of your shorter distances is the lofts of the new clubs. Loft is the prime determiner of distance. Not all manufacturers produce clubs with the same lofts. As well, the new irons might have a lower center of gravity than your old clubs which would produce higher loft as well.

If you don't like the higher trajectory, you'll need to get new clubs or get those irons delofted. I'd get their lofts measured, compared to your old clubs. Take them into a golf shop.

Now, other than hitting them shorter, are you hitting them consistently? Remember, the object of the game is lower scores, not hitting any particular club a certain distance. The higher trajectories might be uncomfortable at first, but what is your shot dispersion like (how much you miss left, right, short, long).

Hope this helps.
