Should I Cut My Golf Club Shaft for More Control?
Question
i bought a 460 driver and it has an after market shaft i am only 5'4" would it help to get the shaft cut for more control
Answer
Duane,
It's rare that a golfer considers sacrificing distance to gain control. This is very commendable. It is true that by shortening the club, control should improve. However if the shaft is cut, it will have different properties than the manufacturer intended. The most obvious change is that it would make the shaft stiffer. This may cause you to it the ball lower, more to the right (right handed golfer) and possibly much shorter off the tee.
My advice is to take the club to your local PGA professional and get his/hers advice.
Thank you,
