Question
Hi my name is Ian and I am a very new golfer. I have only golfed once and I love it. I have one major problem.... It seems that on my drives I am ok, but when I use a wood or an iron I get high on the ball. Either I miss it completely or hit the top half. Any tips

Answer
Hi Ian,

Welcome to the game.

Your problem is a major one for beginning golfers. It stems mainly from making a very "choppy" swing, picking the club up quickly on the backswing. Focus on swinging the club back away from the ground keeping it low to the ground for the first 18 to 24 inches.

More importantly, however, I suggest you get some lessons from a qualified pro, or, at the very least, start reading some golf instruction books on how to swing. I can recommend an excellent CD that can help you get started.

There's no point hitting lots of balls with an improper technique. If you're serious, get off to the right start on building your swing fundamentals.
