14 club bag makeup

Question
QUESTION: I am confused as to the most practical 14 clubs I should carry.  My irons are 3 through Wedge with the wedge being 47 degrees.  I have these extra wedges to choose from: 51,52,53,54,56,58,60.  My club count allows me to carry 2 extra wedges, which 2 should they be?  Furthermore, would it be smart to leave out my 3 iron, since I carry a #5 lofted fairway metal, and carry 3 extra wedges?  If I do this and carry 3 wedges instead of 2, which 3 wedges should I carry? I am equally good from the sand with the 54,56,and 58.

ANSWER: hello and thank you for the question.  lets start by saying that yes, you should get rid of your 3 iron.  i found out that having two different wedges is enough. that is, a 56 degree and 60 degree.  56 degree is more of a standard nowadays and same goes for 60 degree.  if you were to buy two, then you whould have three wedges, including the pitching wedge that is already included in your iron set.  these three wedges are MORE than enough to get the job done around the green.  i do not like the idea of 5 wood.  it is a little too outdated, especially among average golfers like us.  there really is no reason to get a wood when you can get a hybrid.  replace your 3 iron with a hybrid 3 iron.  this club is easy to hit.  it feels like a 6 iron that hits the ball as long as a 3 iron.

QUESTION: Many thanks for the answer and your effort!!!!  However, I am confused by part of your answer and the cause might be that I was not clear enough about what I currently carry and what I have in my garage that could end up in my bag.  To make it more clear:  I own all 7 of those extra wedges, they are top quality forged clubs and I need not buy any more, I just need to choose which two or three to carry. My lofted 5 fairway metal is a modern low profile club that is good from any lie, so I am hesitant to remove it.  I would consider replacing the 3 iron with a hybrid but I hit the lofted 5 fairway metal so well that I doubt that it would be an improvement.  The question I want you to answer is if I choose to carry 2 extra wedges, should they be the 52 and 58, or the 53 and 60?  If I remove the 3 iron from my bag and carry 3 extra wedges should they be the 52, 56, and 60?  Or what combination do you recommend?

Answer
good for you for having all those different wedges!!!!  i didn't know.  my final answer is remove the 3 iron and carry three wedges.  52, 56 and 60.  like i said, its better to be equipped with short game weapons than long game weapons.  you don't need to be hitting 3 iron to break 90, 80, 70 or 60. what you need is a solid game.  as far as i am concerned, if you have a solid short game, there is no reason to not shoot even par on 18 holes.
