Technology's Impact on Golf Competitiveness: A Discussion

Question
do you think that technology has taken the competitiveness out of the game of golf? do you think players should be aloud to "tinker" with their clubs half way through a tournament?

Answer
For the last 30 plus years the average scores for amateur players has remained at the same [or within two strokes] of the existing average scores at that time---Only the Tour professionals scores have improved---This is primarily because of the longer drives which permits them to approach the greens with a more lofted club thus increasing accuracy--

The present rules do allow players to tinker with their clubs in the middle of a tournament---They cannot do the tinkering in the middle of a round, but between rounds they can make any adjustments they desire as long as the clubs are still only 14 in number and do conform to R and A and USGA specifications--
