Shallow swing

Question
Good day.
Thanks for your last reply.
My progress is quite satisfactory at this stage with a much better understanding of the golf swing mechanics, thanks to you and Jean (the South African PGA professional).
As I dedicate extra time to practice my short game, I am now just fine-tuning my long game. My left knee still needs some work as it is not firming up enough. In addition, I am also working on my spine angle. I tend to straigten and stand on my downswing, causing uncontrollable draws or hooks. I am getting much better trajectory off my driver and they are quite accurate. The irons--full swing and 3/4 controlled approach ones are also doing much better-better impact and trajectory.

However, do you still remember the shallow swing that Jean has asked me to work last week? I recalled that he told me to focus on the hands for a shallow swing and yesterday, he asked me to drop that and adopt a more shoulder dominant swing. To be honest with you, I am all so confused. I can't seem to be able to hit those shots despite lots of practice, over 1000 balls on those shots alone and still counting. I am sure that Jean is good as he is able to execute it flawlessly, but he doesn't seems to be able to make me understand how it is executed. Can you correct me if I am wrong?
Methodology: I am doing a flatter takeaway with the hands, focusing on the clubhead staying longer on the ground on the takeaway. Then, I lock my wrists and the hinge formed and just turn my shoulder sideway with the left knee and hips clearing, keeping my hands in front of the clubhead all the time.
In addition, I would also like to seek your advice on camcorders. I wish to obtain a camcorder that is suitable to record fast motion such as a golf swing when I practice. I am aware that a lot of instructing professionals uses these devices to evaluate golf swing. Would you happen to know what essential features should I need for my purposes?

Thank you very much for your time in answering my questions.

With best regards,
MY Chooi

Answer
Hi MY!

Okay, now you are getting way too deep into your head....you confused me on how you even swing the club away!  Sometimes too much thought about motion can really screw it up, so tone it down and get back to rhythm ideas.  "Feel" is awfully important, and it sounds like the confusion is coming from not feeling anything at the moment.  Get back to swinging.

I am not a video expert by any means, but go for something digital that captures high speed motion well.  A well respected electronics store should be able to give you good advice.  Just tell them what you are looking for and go from there.

Keep doing your homework.  Practice, make it fun, mix up clubs during the sessions.  work on wedges, then hit some drivers, play holes in your mind.  Get back to the basis of your foundation and the game:  Swinging the golf club!
