Question
George,
I have a 13 year old daughter who swims at club level. Her best stroke is fly and she is trying to qualify in 200m fly. What should be added to her program to improve endurance for this event?

Thanks,
Sean.

Answer
Sean--
The best thing to add to a program(if she's not doing it already) is broken 200's.
swim 50,10 sec. rest, 50, 10sec, 50, 10 sec, 50, 10 sec.
Then do the same with 5 sec rest
You can also do this broken at the 25's, or at the hundreds.
You can add 5 sec rest(15 rest)
She can add 50 m and do 250m swims to build endurance(these are broken also)
Don't overdue the butterfly training though, it can cause shoulder problems.  As long as you are doing a well rounded training regimen your endurance shouldn't be a problem.
The broken sets are an alternative to other butterfly work.
Hope this helps,
George
