I want to improve the 200 Fly

Question
I can swim fly and it's my best stroke, but in the 200 Fly(that i swam for the firsttime yesterday) was horrible. i know i need more expirience, but do you a good way to swim it. If it helps, i'm in the 13-14 Age group girls.
My time was a 2:50 but i got a DQ.
How do i get a faster time, and make it easier to swim.

Answer
Emily-
First of all, the 200 fly is probably one of the most difficult events and I admire you for wanting to swim it and for wanting to get better at it(butterfly was my favorite also).  The easiest way to swim this event(any 200 other than IM)is to think of it as a build up, first 50 strong yet smooth, second 50 should feel relaxed, make the third your biggest push and the last is all you have left.  Really concentrate on good turns and streamlines, those are your rest spots. Try breathing 2 strokes with a breath one without.
Don't worry about the first time you swam it, it will only get better.  Like I said it is a tough event, I think the only one tougher is the 400IM(trust me I used to swim all of them and went to nationals for both butterflies and the 1650 free)
Good Luck,George
