Virginia Bass Fishing - Where To Go, Tips To Follow?

Virginia bass fishing is well-know for its largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass. Anglers of all ages and skills have made bass fishing the most popular sport in Virginia and other states all across the nation. Bass are a lively, active species that feed very aggressively, especially during feeding times. They will try to eat most anything that moves and that will fit into their mouths. This is one of the things that make bass fishing so exciting.

The largemouth bass got its name because it can open its mouth so wide that it could actually swallow its own head. This is because their upper jawbone extends beyond their eyes giving them a wide range of motion. They are not very picky about what they eat, as long as it fits in their mouth they will try and swallow it. The largemouth bass can grow very big with some even weighing in over twenty pounds.

The smallmouth bass is about half the size of the largemouth bass and rarely grow larger than four or five pounds. Their eyes are normally an orange or red color and their jawbone does not extend beyond their eyes. Both the large and smallmouth bass vary in color ranging from a dark brown to a pale yellow-green color. Their sides have dark vertical bars and the belly is an off-white color. The smallmouth bass are faster and more active than the largemouth and are surprisingly strong for their size.

The spotted bass are similar in color but they have spots on the lower sides of their bodies and a dark spot on their gills. Their mouth is similar to the smallmouth bass and they have a rough patch in the middle of their tongue. All bass are considered to be predatory and territorial so, they will normally strike anything that invades their territory.
