Hunting License Requirements in North Carolina: Hunting on Private Land

In North Carolina, landowners or resident landowners' children (under 18 years old) are not required to obtain a hunting license to hunt on their own property. However, this does not apply if the land is leased or rented out to someone else for hunting purposes.

Landowners do have to report any big game harvest through the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) reporting system (Big Game Harvest Report Card) if they harvest a big game animal on their own land.
