Fishing is an easy hobby to take up, but it is not as popular as it used to be. Fishing is a great activity to enjoy, and the options are endless. This article will give you some tips for approaching a variety of fishing experiences.

It is always prudent to only pack the essentials. Carrying a large tackle box around can quickly become annoying and not necessary. You will be more mobile if you travel light with only the tackle and equipment you need for today.

Use a container for dental floss that is empty, and wrap the spool with monofilament. This is a simple and effective way to store your monofilament. If you happen to be a snipping leader, the convenience of the string-cutter in the floss dispenser will be invaluable.

Don't fly fish in the wind. You won't be as accurate when the wind picks up. Going early at the crack of dawn or late in the evening are the best times to fish, this is because of the lack of wind. If it gets too windy simply turn your back towards the wind and fish.

You need appropriate sunscreen when you go fishing. On the water you will not only receive the sun's rays from the sky, but also bounced off the surface. Protect your skin from cancer by using an SPF 15 product and reapplying hourly.

Consider getting a gaff or net to catch larger fish. A gaff gives you a better grip on your catch, allowing you to get it to you. Nets offer the same control but without the risk of mortally injuring the fish.

Salted worms need to have their flavor refreshed frequently. This is even more important if you're fishing in murky or quick-moving water. To bring salt back to the surface of the worm, just place it in the palm of your hand and rub it briskly.

Be sure to bring a good insect repellent. The activity of fishing will inevitably expose you to insects, including various species of mosquitoes. Therefore, you should choose a bug spray that will help mask your presence from mosquitoes. Try to begin your fishing trip after dawn and before dusk to avoid prime mosquito time. Don't get bitten. Pack some anti-itch lotion just in case you get a few insect bites.

Perhaps, you could try surf fishing? Surf fishing can be a fun past time and give you a wide range of fish you can catch during the summer months. You can catch fish such as reds, trouts and skinny-water fish out there. Consider using things like shrimp or minnows to catch these fish.

Use the water's current when fishing to your advantage. If you notice a current in play, use it. Putting a lure on the current and softly jerking it every so often will make it appear enticing to fish. If you use the current, your lure has a better chance of getting noticed.

As stated earlier, fishing is a wonderful way to unwind and just enjoy yourself. It can also provide a great meal! Hopefully, this article has given you some great advice you can put to good use the next time you go out to enjoy an afternoon of fishing, or longer, if you are so fortunate!
