Some fish prefer staying near the bottom, while others prefer hanging out at the water's surface. Some species of fish favor shade, and others crave bright sunlight. After choosing your location, learn what fish live there and what their particular habits are.

Day and night fishing need different approaches taken. Night fishing, however, can be very rewarding. If you are fishing for fish such as small-mouthed bass, you should use heavy tackle that helps you feel the location of your lure. When night fishing, you may find plastic worms, hair jigs, and pork rinds to come in handy. To avoid getting lines tangled, use single lures.

Never embark on a fishing trip unprepared. Whatever fishing condition you put yourself into, you want to make sure that you dress and plan accordingly. Failure to prepare properly in and of itself can completely ruin your day of fishing.

If you want to take some photographs of any fish that you catch before returning them to the water, you need be as quick as possible. The fish has no way to breathe outside of water, and the longer you it of water, the less chance it has for survival.

Fishing spots that have a lot of vegetation may cause you to become frustrated. Just realize that whereas this may be irritating, you are more likely to catch fish here, as they tend to try to feed off the bugs that live on these plants.

You don't have to keep every fish that you catch. It is common courtesy to release smaller catches, as well as excessive catches. By controlling the number of fish that is removed, fishermen are ensuring an abundance of fish will be available for future generations.

A great lure that is beginner friendly is spinnerbait; this is a great upgrade from earthworms. These particular lures are especially good for fishing shady areas, or murky waters. Bass are more attracted to this type of bait than any other fish, but spinnerbait is also great for catching crappie.
