Different Fishing Bait Formulas

2016/7/18 17:09:41

Have you ever been fishing and saw someone catching all the fish while you were left with nibbles? I have many times. When I see someone hauling in stringers full of fish I get jealous at times. Sometimes I would ask someone about the techniques they use to catch so many fish.

Through the years, I have collected some very useful information concerning fishing baits. The most important realization was that the people who were catching the most fish were not using store bought baits. It seems that they made their own baits.

So what is a short history of flavoured carp baits and why are flavours such a well-known part of carp fishing today? Basically, going back to the nineteen seventies and early eighties when the bolt rig was teamed-up with concentrated flavour style boilies which were often of low nutritional value, this combination established a very highly successful method. This was even before the universal popularisation of the hair rig or pop-up baits etc.

Making catfish soap bait is kind of easy to make. The ingredients needed are water, lye, and animal fat (beef, pork or lard). Lye is also known as sodium hydroxide. It must be noted that lye be used with caution. Read the label for all warnings and the correct ways of handling.

Most anglers don't realize how sensitive most fishes sense of smell is. Any scents that are on your hands, will transfer to whatever bait or lure you're using and if the fish detects any unnatural scents they are much less apt to bite. As anglers we need to make sure that are hands are free of any unnatural scents.

The first strategy is to use trout bait, the synthetic trout bait sold in jars and bottom fish with it. You know, still fishing? If you use gang hooks you can add two "portions" of bait, thus doubling your chances of hooking up. By still fishing, you can effectively fish for stocked trout that have been planted in a lake or pond.

Making your own fish bait is not only easy, it is fun and cheap. You can make the bait with your children and share the fun the next day catching fish knowing that you made the bait yourself. You can make pounds of bait for literally pennies and keep the unused portion in the freezer for months.

Now of course you have many products that do not just sit inactive on the bottom, but some rise upwards to and also hang in different water layers so attracting fish even more effectively. You can replicate this effect by making your own unique ground baits by selecting those bait items that are less dense and making very active ground baits is a great money-saving edge.

Use all of them or pick and choose your favorites, the point is that these tips have been proven through more than twenty years of actual fishing experience. These aren't simply "theories" that haven't been proven by actual fishing. You're not going to find any magic formula in this article, just simple river fishing tips that will enable you to get more bites, and thus catch more fish.
