Catfishing Line Guide - Don\t Get Caught With A Broken Line

2016/7/18 17:10:25

When it comes to selecting the best catfish line, the sky is the limit. There is so many different lines out there that it really is a matter of preference and finding out what works for you in the various conditions in which you will be fishing.

The thing is, line is often overlooked. It is silly really when you think about it. If your line breaks, you are going to lose that fish, folks, and nobody wants that to happen. For this reason, check your line, and check it often. When you bring in a fish, just double check your line to be sure it is not stressed as you are baiting your hook.

Now, when it comes to catfish, they are not nearly as line shy as some species, so you don\'t have to be quite as choosy as you would if you were fishing for a more easily spooked fish.

For general purpose table catfishing, you can just use an inexpensive, high strength line with a small diameter in from ten to twenty-five pound test strength. If you are looking to hook one of the big, lunker cats, you are going to want to step it up a bit. Consider an abrasion resistant line in from thirty to eighty pound test line.

If you are fishing tailraces, heavy wood cover, or riprapped banks this heavier, more durable line is essential. Braided superline is a good choice if you are fishing in conditions where you need a line with a small diameter, such as when you need to reduce the drag in heavy current. These superlines are so thin and yet they are just as strong as thicker lines. They allow anglers to cast farther, making them the ideal choice for those fishing from the shore.

There are four basic types of line on the market. You can choose monofilament, fused, braided, or fluorocarbon lines. Of these four types, monofilament is the most popular.

This does not necessarily mean it is the best for all kinds of fishing and fishing conditions, it is just inexpensive and has been around a long time. It is a good, all purpose line, and is the easy choice. The main drawback with monofilament is the fact that it has what is referred to as \'memory\'. This means, it retains the shape in which it is stored.

For this reason, the inexpensiveness of mono line can be deceiving in that you will need to spool only the amount you should need and change it every time you go fishing, particularly if you fish infrequently.

There are 4 kinds available in the market. These are monofilament, braided, fused and fluororcarbon.

The Monofilament fishing line is the most popular of the four since it has been around for a very long time. It also works well in different fishing conditions. The problem with this line is that it has \"memory.\"

This means that it has a tendency to keep to a certain shape if stored for some time. If a person does not fish often, it is best to purchase a line that is not very long and it is advisable to change it every time one goes out fishing.
