Tube Jigs For Spring Crappie Fishing

2016/7/18 17:10:50

Throw away the crappie minnow and put on a tube jig! Yes, that's right, the biggest staple to spring Crappie fishing you need to throw away. I have been fishing for years with a tube jig and a bobber with about as much success as any lure imaginable for spring crappies.

Years back I was fishing a spring crappie lake from shore with my good old jig and crappie minnow. Yes I was catching fish, but there was a young kid catching crappies a pace of about 5 to1 to me. It got my attention. After a while I stooped to the level of asking him what he was using and he told me. A tube jig with the bobber about a foot and a half up, and no minnow.

I quickly adapted and just pounded the crappies. Yes I would miss a few but unlike the minnow would get stolen, the tube was still there and sure enough I would get another bite that cast. I reel them in ever so slow and I feel that you can cover more ground too.

I really have found over the years that it isn't that the fish weren't biting, they weren't there. So move to another location.
Tube jigs are easy and inexpensive and really all you need for a mess of spring crappies.

Who says that you can't learn from a young kid. Had he not been there that day I still might be chumming minnows for the crappies dinner, not mine.
