2016/7/18 17:11:25

In order to fish the Kentucky spotted bas, you need to understand a few things about the species. The average weight of spotted bass caught is about one to two pounds. Of course, this will depend on the area where you are fishing.

The fight you will get from this small fish is remarkable. They are a feisty fish and will fight to get away from you. If you are going fishing keep in mind there are a few things that will repel the spotted bass.

Bug spray, nicotine and hand lotion. If you are going fishing, make sure that you do not use these things and touch them before touching the bait. You must also be very quiet when approaching the water or the bank.

The Kentucky spotted bass likes to live in water with fast currents. It does not matter how cold the water is as long as the current is fast. During the spawn, spotted bass will be found in shallow waters and will strike fast and bright baits.

It is not unusual at this time to find the bass in large schools. The best baits to use for fishing this fish is insects, frogs, small birds, rats, mice, night crawlers, some other fish and crawfish. You do have to present the bait in the right way to get the catch.

Shorelines that are rocky or by coves is where you are going to find the spotted bass. It is common to find these fish in steams and rivers although they can be found in some lakes. The fish will also be found around weed beds, fallen tress and heavy cover.

They are always hiding in wait of prey. You just need to find a place in any state that has Kentucky bass and look for some bait to use. It should not be hard to catch a day's limit if you stay in the areas where the fish live.

Spring fishing has its upside. The pre spawn is when the spotted bass are biting intensely. You will find this feeding frenzy along flat edges and by the gravel points. The brush in the channels is another place where the bass will be located and will present a great opportunity to catch some nice bass.

During the pre spawn, you can use jigs with crawfish any time, but during the spring, these will work very well. If you know of some fish in the deeper waters, use a dropshop rig and see how many fish you will catch.

Summer fishing is a little different, as you will find the Kentucky spotted bass in different depths of water depending on the clarity of the water. Some anglers will use skipping worms while others will use a crawfish and a jig.

However, the spotted bass will feed from the bottom in spring and early summer before coming closer to the water top. If you find a school of shad, the spotted bass will be near by ready to feed.
