Stream Fishing Techniques To Increase Success

Proper storage is key to making your reels last. In order to do this, you must reduce the tension of your star wheel and clean your line before you reel it in for the last time.

You will need a sharp hook if you plan on fishing often. If the hook causes a light scratch on your fingernail when you drag it across, it will probably be effective for fishing. If not, you must sharpen it or just get a new one. Otherwise, you won't be able to hook any fish.

Pay attention to the wind patterns when fishing. If the wind is strong enough to affect the current, fish will probably go with the current and congregate on one side. You need to set your cast into the wind. However, if the wind is too strong, fish will probably stay at the bottom of the lake where you cannot reach them.

If you are doing catch-and-release fishing, take care not to fight with the fish you hook. Many sudden movements that the fish makes while fighting can cause it to become injured. If you can't reel a fish in, let go of it or you'll risk killing it.

If you are fishing in a river or lake, near the shore can be an ideal spot to cast. Fish often inhabit the shore because this is where the insects they feed on are usually located. Watch for the weeds, however!

Whenever you are fishing out of a boat, try and keep the floor as dry as possible. You certainly don't want to fall and possibly injure yourself. Prior to heading out on the water, use a towel or a mop to dry the floor.

Bass fishermen often prefer to fish with lighter colored grubs. Light colored grubs such as yellow, white or chartreuse have been shown to be extremely effective. Grubs with silver flakes are able to reflect light, which can catch the attention of more fish. Try using a grub that is the color of the water to increase your odds of success.

It is helpful to fish near objects that provide shelter for fish, such as fallen trees or river banks. There are some fish that live near these kind of structures, so take note of this. An empty, quite shore can be a great place to catch large fish.

The weather can dictate whether a fishing trip will be good or bad. Always find out what kind of weather to expect before you go fishing. Check the weather forecast a week before your fishing tip, and then again a day before you go fishing. If the weather does not look good, postpone your fishing trip.

Watch out for the teeth in fish, such as walleye and pike. The teeth on these fish are very sharp, and the fish will try to bite you. Squeeze the fish around the middle, and only attempt removal of the hook once the fish becomes motionless. Wearing gloves will make it easier to dislodge the hook and return the fish to the water.

Pass along the tips you've learned here to your friends and family. They will be impressed by the things that you know and they will appreciate how you want them to be good at fishing, as well.
