Walleye Fishing Tactics Most Popular Species Of Fish

The Walleye is one of the most popular species of fish sought after today and for good reason. They are a challenge to catch which gives anglers something to look forward to because they know a day reeling in the walleye will be a day not soon forgotten. Another reason they are so popular is because walleyes are some of the best tasting species of fish around.

In the spring when the ice is thawing and the water is warming up the walleye will move into inlets, near rocks and around all types of structures so they can get ready for the spawning season. This is the time of year when they are the most aggressive when it comes to feeding and the time that provides many great opportunities to reel in the walleye.

The best time to catch walleye will be between late afternoon and early morning because they tend to avoid the bright sunlight found in the middle of the day. However, cloudy and windy days are also a great time to go walleye fishing. They will stay in the shallow water on cloudy days and when the wind is blowing and making the water choppy because the waves help block the sunlight.

Be Alert
It is always a good idea to be alert and pay attention to what is going on around you and the same holds true for when you are fishing. One of the first things that you want to do is pay attention to the natural food source located in the area you are fishing. This information will help you decide which type of bait would be the best to use and it will help you locate where the fish are congregating together as well.

Another thing that you have to be aware of is that the walleye fish does not aggressively hit your line. In fact, it is quite the opposite. They are very gentle when they take your bait and if you are not paying attention you will miss the strike altogether. Look for areas where the baitfish is swimming around and you will most likely find a group of walleye close by.

Take some time to learn about the area where you are fishing. This will help you know the best places to find where the walleye are located, what their natural food source is and which techniques usually works the best. This information will help you be moreprepared and catch more fish on each and every fishing trip you take. After all, knowing where to look for the walleye is half the battle. Keep in mind that the walleye will be located in different areas of the water depending on the time of year that you go fishing.

Basic Walleye Information

Normally, when fishing for walleye the best results are achieved when you use a lightweight line because it is easier to feel when the fish are biting. When ready to set the hook do not jerk the line hard or this could cause you to lose the fish by pulling the bait right out of its mouth. Instead, you need to make very short strokes to make sure it sets the hook securely so you can reel in the walleye.
