Golf Techniques

2016/7/20 10:52:22

To further improve your golf techniques takes endless hours of practice and will need a lot of patience and effort. People who have never attempted to play golf will often find watching it very boring, however those that have at least attempted to play the game and realised how challenging it can be to perfect your golf techniques will find it more engaging.

There are 2 golf techniques to try and master to be able to enhance your game, the grip and the swing. Firstly, you should try and perfect your golf grip. The only contact you will get with the ball is through the club, and the only contact with the club is with your grip. The grip is the beginning of the process, the beginning link between you and the ball. It is not easy to make a strong chain when starting with a weak link. While most instructors teach using slightly different techniques, most will agree that when trying to perfect this technique there’s 2 primary points to think about.

Pressure: If you grip the club too tight you will end up with a weak swing as the majority of your power will likely be concentrated to holding the club. By not holding the club tight enough your swing will not have enough power, or you may even end up letting go of the club! A gentle but firm grip of the club will help you to hit the ball with the perfect amount of power while maintaining an accurate swing.

Position your hands: The main element to this technique is to find a position that is comfortable and allows you the perfect balance between power and precision. There are a couple of different grip methods which are used and taught by instructors. The first is having your hands overlapped, and the second is to have your fingers interlocked. Some excellent players use the interlocked fingers technique, however it is primarily beginners that use this technique.

The golf swing will be the final link in the chain, now joining your club to the ball. Ahead of stepping up to the ball, stand behind it and visualise the line between the ball and the target. Once you’ve visualised the line you want the ball to take, you need to approach the ball and start your swing. Watching others play is a great way to brush up on this golf technique. By observing and copying the golf techniques of his father, one of the worlds best golfers, Tiger Woods, first learnt to play golf.

Other golf techniques which you will have to improve to become a good player are your posture, balance and the spacing in between your legs. Other less important, and uncontrollable factors include the weather and the course you happen to be playing on!

The simplest way to improve your golf techniques is to simply practice and play yourself once you’ve read the basics and watched some more experienced players. Golf techniques which work effectively for one player, will most likely not work for another, you will need to practice and fine-tune your techniques while you play to find the perfect technique for you. The main point to remember though is the fact that golf is really a game that ought to be fun and enjoyable to learn. So just be sure you do not put excessive pressure on yourself to get that hole in one, or get your swing perfect, relax and enjoy the game and your golf techniques will develop as you play!
