Balk Rules & Defensive Strategies: Right-Handed Pitcher to Second Base
Question
Is it a balk if a right handed pitcher lifts his leg and throws back to second base?
Answer
Hey John,
Not automatically.
The best way, is to spin..
Here's the plan you should use. With a runner on second (right handed pitcher) Spin to pick-off at 2nd, but go clockwise (to the right) a few times to fake the runner into thinking that's your best move.. Then when you are serious about picking him off, turn the other way. He won't be expecting the switch.. He'll freeze for a few seconds, may be enough to get him..
Let me know, the first time it works.
Good Luck..
