Drop kick on the kickoff - high school rules

Question
ls it legal on a kickoff to run up to the ball, stop and take it off the tee and lateral it to a team mzte a few yards away who drop kicks an onside kick?

Answer
No it is not legal. You play would include a snap. The lateral as you describe amounts to a snap and this is a free kick play (Kick Off). Therefore the a free kick must be made from the ground or a tee or a drop kick. The intent of a kick off is to "give the ball" to the Receiving team. Because the kick off is a high speed change of possesion play with high velocity contact the rules require safety imposed and trick plays don't always make for safety. That is not to say trick plays are unsafe. But free kick plays and change of posession plays can be unsafe so having a trick play that is not an straight forward clealy obvious kick off would not be within the intent off the rule. (I do like your play idea it would be a fun play with a lot of options for the kicking team to recover).
