Field Goal Distance: Measurement from Line of Scrimmage vs. Kick Spot

Question
Is the distance for a field goal from point A to B of the kick to the goal post used to determine the distance or is it from the line of scrimmage to the goal post or the goal line ?

Answer
Hello,

The field goal is measured from the spot the kicker kicks the ball to the goal pole (back of end zone). So as a rule of thumb you always add 17 yards to the line of scrimmage. If the ball is on the 30 yard line. Then it would be a 47 yard field goal. Add 7 yards for the distance the holder gets behind the line of scrimmage, and 10 yards for the depth of the end zone.
