converting from TE to WR

Question
I just graduated high school about 9 months ago and played defense my whole high school career, but i live in an area where there are not many football colleges so i joined an independent league and they converted me tight end and i really enjoyed it, i'm a physical player and i loved meeting the linebackers in the middle of the field head-on. However as i continue my search for a college, there is a trend that goes on for almost all division 2 or 3 schools. Nearly every football teams' tight end is 6'3" or taller and about 240lbs. I barley hit 6'1" and am just about 210lbs, i ran my 40 in 4.8 sec and was wondering how i would be able to get my 40 down to about 4.6 to 4.5 so as to have a better chance to make a team as a walk-on?

Answer
Speed is not everything, heart is.  I personally feel that cardio & leg strength are the most important areas to work considering your question.

Safetys & WRs have to be in excellent condition.  You are running longer, faster, & more crisp routes than any other position, over, & over, & over...You are the starter, no one else gets your position.  When everyone else runs one suicide, you run two!!!!!  When others are running sprints & bending over, you run an extra one, not for the team or your coach, but for yourself.

Proper weight-lifting is another requirement.  Find a good strength coach in your area if there's not one on staff.  This does not work properly unless you diet properly also.  No carbonated drinks...PERIOD.  High protein, no steroids. EVER!!!

Last, find a buddy equally as committed as you....Push each other.  My buddy was the quarterback ( I wonder why)  No excuses.  No excuses.  No excuses.  I hope to see you in the pros. Be that one in 1000.

Good luck...keep me informed.....
