Youth strength and conditioning

Question
My son is 12 years old going into Junior High.  He's played football in a competitive flag football rec league but will be playing tackle football for the first time.  What kind of conditioning program can I get him on so he's prepared when school starts?

Answer
Jim I would focus on getting your son flexible and in good cardiovascular shape.  Flexiblity is important to all players in football, this prevents injury on the field, as well as make the player faster.  Sprints are the best way to get into shape for football.  Running sprints up and down hills, is a good work out along with sprint ladders.  Sprint ladders are running 100 yard sprints then 90 then 80 and so on.  For a 12 year old being in good shape is being in good cardio and being flexable.  GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!
