How can I improve my 40 time?

Question
Hey coach. I'm going into my freshman year this year. Most of the team
already showed up to workouts. We ran our 40 yard sprint a couple days
ago. I got a 5.5. That was fourth fastest on the team. I want to get it down to
5.3 or 5.2 by the start of the season. I go everyday to the weight room at the
fieldhouse at the high school. I also want to increase my vertical jump
because I want to play WR. I forgot what my vertical jump was but if you
need it, I'll get back to you on it. By question, what can I do to increase my
jump and decrease my 40 time? Thanks in advance.

Answer
I have answered this question before.  But I will try and help you.  First be sure to stretch out daily.  Run sprints daily, along with running hills.  Sprint both up and down the hill.  Jumping rope should be done daily as well.  Investing in an elastic cord is another good way to improve your strength and speed.  Tie the cord around your waste, then have someone hold the other end of the cord while you sprint.  The cord will add resistance and improve your strength an speed.  You should run 40 yard sprints with the cord.  Last but not least next spring join the track team.  This will teach you how to run more fluidly and efficiently.  Good luck Coach Noel!
