Improving Speed for Wide Receiver: Realistic Expectations & Training Strategies

Question
Dear coach, I am 14 yrs old and i am going 2 be a sophomore next yr. I want to start at wide-receiver, i know i can get open i work on routes everyday, i just lack the speed to excel my game. I currently run a 5.3/5.2 40 time. And  i want to get that 2 a 4.8 by the end of the summer so that i cant start. What do you think i should do.

Answer
Well Allen I hate to burst your bubble, but shaving .4 tens of a second off your 40 time is next to impossible in one summer.  What you can do to get a little faster, is work on 3 things.  First become as flexible as possible.  Flexible muscles are faster than non-flexible muscles.  Two run sprints daily.  Especially hill sprints, both up and down the hill.  Jump rope and run lots of footwork drills.  Like cone drills and high rope footwork drills.  Last invest in a bungie cord to rap around your waist.  Have someone else hold it while you run.  This improve muscle strength in the legs.  GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!
