Penalty

Question
I the  Wash v Philly game  Philly got a double minor for drawing blood on a high stick call.  A few seconds later Ovechkin gets an interference call  Now they are playing 4 on 4.  Philly scores but Ovechkin stays in the box tfor the entire 2 min.  Why?  Doesn't he come out when the opponet scores a goal?

Thanks for writing.  First the double minor will hold the individual in the box for 4 minutes.  The 4 minutes is not run congruent to each other.  The first 2 minute penalty is run off and then the second 2 minute penalty is run off for a total of 4 minutes.

Because the sides are equal in strength (4 on 4) both player will stay in the box after the goal is scored.  If it was the case in where it was a (5 on 4 or a 4 on 3) then that player would come out of the box when the other team has the man advantage and have score the goal.

This should help explain this in a little more detail.  Even though this is a USA Hockey Rule Book, USA Hockey govern and controls all hockey within the USA and both the NHL and USA Hockey use the same rules with the exception of assessing fight calls at the NHL level.
