Prop, or Winger?

2016/7/16 9:54:59

Question
You see, I have a dilemma. I'm 18, 5"7 tall and around 176lbs, I have decent leg strength (160kg squat 1rm), and I can sprint decently.(100m - 11.3sec) Should I continue to play prop, as my coach put me into, or should I play other positions such as winger? I tend to find myself at wing position during touch.

All these coming from someone who played rugby for his school only for a year.

Answer
Hi Hornby,

It is hard to say as I am not your coach, I can't see your playing skills and there are a lot of factors that go into picking a position.

I suggest you go for playing the position that you like best. The key is to enjoy your rugby. Just getting to play is a big deal so if you get a lot of games at prop but would warm the bench at winger you might want to consider staying at prop. If it makes no difference then playt the position you like best. Also be open to change. You could change positions 2 or 3 times over the next 3 years.
