Fly ball/ tag up

Question
Bases loaded, less than two out, outfield fly ball is caught. All runners advance one base including runner at third who scored, but runner at second was appealed by the defense and called out for failure to tag up. How are the other runners affected by this? 8-3-F refers to failure of a PRECEDING runner to tag, but does not mention a succeeding runner's failure to tag and how that affects other runners. In this case the runner at third and at first.

Answer
Hi Jim,

This is a fairly common appeal.  It is a considered a timing play and not a force out and the run from 3rd would score (even if the appeal was the 3rd out) and if less than 3 outs all other play would stand.  This assumes the appeal is made (live or dead ball) after all play is finished.

In this case with 0 outs to start R1 scores, R2 is out on appeal and R3 is at 2nd.  Offense now has 2 outs (the fly ball and the appeal).

Look at POE1 appeals and you'll see how we get there.
