Infield Fly rulw

Question
Slow pitch - limited arc softball. With bases loaded and 0 outs, there was a popfly to the Lifers' first baseman.  The Ump called the infield fly.  The first baseman dropped the ball.  The runners did not advance.  The batting team argued that there is no infield fly rule with 0 outs. The umpire reversed his call and said there was no infield fly rule. The first baseman then stepped on first base to record the out on the batter who never ran to first.  The ump awarded the batter first base on an "umpire's mistake."  The bases remained loaded with 0 outs and a run scored. Doesn't the infield fly rule apply with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1st, 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs?

Answer
Hi Andy,

You know sometimes I just shake my head.

Doesn't the infield fly rule apply with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1st, 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs?  Of course it does!

The batting team argued that there is no infield fly rule with 0 outs.  That's just stupid!

It is protestable as a mis-application of the playing rules.
