Understanding Sacrifice Hits & Bunts in Baseball: Rules & Scoring

Question
How is a slap hit different than a regular hit?  Shouldn't an attempted hit that is fielded but moved the runner be scored as a sacrifice than if a slap hit is? I am confused about slap hitting/bunting,drag hitting/bunting and how to score them.

Question -
When you slap hit to move a runner and get thrown out is it scored as a sacrifice?

Answer -
Hi Tina,

If you moved the runner, sure I would score it that way.

Answer
Hi Tina,

I appreciate your question and I'm an umpire not an offical scorer.

It would be my "dumb umpire" thought that if the batter intends to take an out for themselves to advance the runner it is a sacrfice.  If they are "swinging away" and happened to be out it is a fielder's choice.

best I can do...sorry
