Look Back Rule Stop Once Clarification

This questions pertains to ASA 12-U girls fastpitch softball.  I'm not sure how to apply the "stop once" criteria in the look back rule.  Specifically, consider the following example.  Runner on third base with no outs.  Pitcher releases the pitch and runner takes big lead off third base.  Catcher receives the pitch and trots up third base line to get the runner to return to third base.  Runner starts back toward third base.  Catcher throws ball back to pitcher in the circle.  Runner takes an additional three steps back toward third base and then reverses direction (before reaching the base) and runs toward home and ultimately scores.  The pitcher was surprised and made no attempt to make a play.  Is the runner in compliance with the "stop once" clause in the look back rule?  Please explain.

I'm sorry but I was wrong in my 1st answer to this and it's more important you have the right info than for me to protect my ego.

No this is not legal.  Once a runner is moving toward a base (not 1st) and the pitcher receives the ball in the circle the runner can stop once and then immediately advance to the next base or return to the previous base.  The stop and moving one way or the other does have to be as soon as the pitcher receives the ball.  The 3 steps toward 3rd after the pitcher has the ball in the circle causes the batter to be out in this case.
