high school girls volleyball training drills

Question
Hello Coach,

My daughter is on the Freshman Girls High School Volleyball team. She does not play club volleyball, but we send her to volleyball training by former Penn State Player once a week. She is 5ft11inches and will play the middle. Are there certain training drills or equipment that would help her jump higher and hit harder. I see all these jump sole shoes, do they work to improve jumping on jumpusa, your help is greatly appreciated in pointing us in the right direction. thanks, george

Answer
George,

First I think you should have your daughter play club.  Keep the Penn State Player for the once a week workout BUT your daughter needs to play in competition.  Plus she needs to be seen.  Unless your Penn State player is hiding her for Russ Rose!?!

As far as the shoes go, I know a few clubs that use them and I have had a few players say they are good.  I've never heard of a college team using them though so it makes me wonder.  A good weight training program along with a plyometric workout would help her vertical.  Plus it will help her get ready for the college work schedule.

As far as hitting harder.  I am a big rep guy.  I think the more swings you take the better you will swing.  Once you get the technique down it's all about repetitions.

If possible get her into a club next season.

Good luck,
Steve
