Is there a difference between...

Question
Is there a difference between how setting is taught
(placement of hands) in High School and in college? WHen
should the setter have her hands up?

Answer
Tim,

There are some great high school and club coaches out there so the answer to your question is both yes and no. I try to recruit players who already know how to set at a very high level and then we just try and "tweek" a thing here and there (such as height or position of a specific set).  Some coaches want every player to do it their way so unless you are theaching their philosophy they will coach your player to set differently.

As far as hands go the sooner they are up the better.  Our setting coach preaches that the hands should be up before the setter gets to the 10' line.  This way she is ready to set a shanked pass or a line drive type pass better.

Hope this answered your question.
