Silaflex Magnum PT Spinning Rods: Production Dates & History

Question
Hi Joe - -
I have 2 Silaflex spinning rods, Magnum PT-60, one piece, tip to end of butt is 7'.  Silaflex emblem is stamped in the metal reel seat.  Any idea of when these models were sold?  Thanks for any info you can provide.

Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,

The Silaflex Magnum PT series of fly rods was made in the early 1960s.  I would assume the spinning rod series was made at the same time.  These Silaflex rods were probably made by Pacific Laminates before the company was sold to Browning in 1963...and they were fairly pricey rods for the time.  I don't have any value data on these particular rods, but suspect they would have a collector following and a decent value today.

You might do some searching on fiberglass specific web sites and discussion forums.  There are several and most of the folks who frequent them are pretty knowledgeable.  You might even find a buyer.

Thanks,  Joe
