Vintage fly rod worth

Question
QUESTION: Hi Mac,
Bamboo rod marked UTK.From your previous posts I now know the age and maker. My question is that this rod has 6!! pieces. Is this possibly a set?Did they make "extras" in case you snapped a piece? Or am I in possession of one rod and pieces to another one?
Thanks so much for your time
Fly Mans Daughter-- Karen

ANSWER: Karen,
It is very possible that you have one 6 piece rod. If they are 12-15 inches then there is not replacement sections. If they are closer to 36 inches, you have a switch from fly to cast rod.
To answer" am I in possession of one rod and pieces to another one?" I would need to know length of sections. Try putting it together and give me total length. I assume you know it is HI and not very valuable , so what have you got to loose ?
Luck ,
Mac

QUESTION: Hi Mac,
It is 105 inches long -stem to stern. Since I paid $1.00 for it I think I'll do okay. I am actually thinking of gifting it to someone. My Dad was a past president of the Ct Fly Fishermans Assoc. and recently died. I have been looking for bamboo poles for him for years and ironically enough ran into one last week at a rummage sale (gift from Daddy?)Dadddy had many friends in the assoc. who corresponded with him for years and I was throwing around the idea of giving it to one of them. His collection was given away to a dear friend who took time out of his busy life to take a wheelchair bound man out on the Farmington for one last cast. So my thoughts are to gift him this rod as a thank you. Anyway-- I do not want to give him "crap" but am sure he would appreciate a token thank you for his many years of kindness to a father who could never get his kids to throw a fly.But none-the-less he was a great father and dare I say a greater fly tier and fisherman.
Regards, Karen

Answer
Karen,
What a great daughter your are, so thoughtful.
The rod is an oddity , moderately rare- really not a fishing tool but would look good in a museum or collection. I have cast one. It's too heavy and awkward.
My children do not fly fish either. I always say they are smarter than me.
Luck,
Mac
