Gliebe Excalabur #112

Question
I see by one of your questions that the Gliebe Company was in Brookly, NY, do you have a time frame? I wondering about this beautiful rod, carved wood, metal rod, hoping that you can give me a lot of information regarding this piece, Carol

Answer
Hi Carol,

I don't have exact dates of company operation but they were in business in the early part of the 1900s.  I assume this is a boat rod...long wooden handle, fairly short rod shaft.  Gleibe did not make rods.  They had the rods they sold made by other companies.  A possible maker of the steel rod at that time would have been the Horton Manufacturing Company of Bristol, CT.  Value of the rod would be in the $5-$30 range depending on condition.

Thanks,  Joe
