Vintage Hardy Smuggler

Hello Joe,
I am curious about information and possible value on a Hardy fly rod.  I have not been able to find this exact listing on the internet.  The markings are, House of Hardy - Made in England 6# Smuggler - 8 (D/C) 245cm.  It is a 4 piece and is in mint condition with the plastic covers still in perfect condition on the cork pieces. It does not look as though this rod was used.  I have seen Angel Smugglers online, but this is marked with just Smuggler and does not match any of the pictures listed.

Hi Brian,

Sounds like a nice rod.  My reference book does list the smuggler model separately, however, it does list the #6 model in 2-piece configuration.  In Mint condition the #6 would be valued in the $675-$750 range.  I would assume the 4-piece msuggler model would be valued somewhat higher due to the ease of transport and it's probably more rare than the 2-piece.

The smuggler is a Hardy model.  Hardy Brothers are still in business and you might get help directly from them by accessing their web site.  Ask about assistance in valuing the rod and authenticating it from their records, including date of manufacture.  These pieces of information would help establish the real value for the rod for any possible future sale.
