H-I bamboo rod

Question

Reel seat H-I
Hello Rich.

I have a Horrocks-Ibbotson bamboo rod 7', 2 pieces. Both pieces have the same length.

I send you some pics of the reel seat, the label in the cloth bag and the label on the blank to your email on Yahoo

I don't want know the price of this rod, i only want to know the model and the age of this rod.

Can you help me?

Best regards

Answer
Pedro,
According to IMG_0029.jpg, the label and Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair , your rod was made from 1929-1933. I doubt if anyone can pin it down further.

The model name should be in script near the label.
I am assuming it is not there, because you asked. I don't have pictures of the area opposite the label.

Another book with prices and info :
Antique %26 Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification %26 Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

Two piece models were Princess ,Queen, King and Pocono.  I am pretty sure it is not Pocono because it was not made in the 30s , but it was 7' and no extra tip.

What is the length of the cork grip ?

Princess is 5 1/2
Queen is 6 1/2
King  is 7 inches.

Thread colors
Rod Name    Main Color    Trim #1
Princess    Blue #17    White #2
Queen            Green #24    White #2
King           Red #10    White #2

I don't rely on thread color , because I have found  allot of variations from Sinclair.

Also I might also guess your rod has been refinished , erasing the model name and adding new, not original thread colors.

Let me know what you think.

I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.

It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.

Luck,
Mac
