Identifying Your Vintage Wards Thoroughbred Bamboo Fly Rod (1930s-1950s)

Question
I have a 3/2, 9' Wards thorobred Bamboo Fly Rod.  One tip is agate, the other tip is wire.  Can you tell me when these rods were made and or marketed?  Thanks,
Rudy

Answer
Hi Rudy,

The Bamboo rods sold by Montgomery Wards were typically the lower quality production rods made by some of the mass production rod building companies of the time.  They will be average or less in performance, but you can find a good one now and then.  Probably made in the 1930s-1950s and sold in all Wards stores plus their mail order catalog.  Value on this rod would be in the $40-$140 range depending on quality and condition.

Thanks,  Joe
