Estimating Brown Trout Weight from Length: Formulas & Tips
Question
Hello Jim;
Is there an equation by which you can calculate a brown trout's weigth based on length. For instance, I caught a 23" brown, can I use that length to calcualte its weight?
Thanks
Answer
There are several formulas but you need the girth which is the total length around the fish at the middle. You can look on the net for some fish of siimilar size to get an idea. I am thinking that a fish that long is around 5 to 7 poounds depending on the girth and health.
If early in spring then go with the lower number.
