I went fishing yesterday,march29. 69deg outside bluebird skies, watertemp 61-64 degs two days after hard rain.murkey water but clear in certain pockets.i caught six bass in the morning.sight fishing between 5 and 8 feet. but when the bite stopped we could no longer see the fish. we moved out to 20 feet of water on creek channels and saw a ton of fish stacked up on the edges of drop offs.they were suspending between 10 to 15 feet. we threw everything at them dd14 stike king series 4 and 5 in a wide variety of colors, but could not catch any. and i dont understand why. any help would be nice because this happens to me quite a bit.

Answer
Hi Tim,

I can't respond directly about Toledo Bend bass but this happens everywhere.

If I had a definitive answer on how to catch these negative bass I'd be more famous than Roland Martin.  I can tell you that for fish in a negative mood like this you have to slow down and finesse them if you want any chance at all.  Crankbaits are a little to aggressive.

I'd definitely try drop-shotting them with a small 4-5" worm or reaper.  Or maybe something as simple as a 3"-4" twister tail on a 1/4 ounce head on a light spinning rod.  You need something that will hang right in their face and not make them move much to eat.

Give that a try next time.

Good fishing,

Marc
