Hi Doug: My nick name is Doug;I have a automatiqe MAR Bervetta SGDG MODEL A  SERIAL225394 I am needing to know the approx yeear of mfg, Thanking you in advance Duard (Doug) I also am sending a pic.

Answer
Duard,

After WWII, MAB pistols were imported into the United States by the Western Arms Corporation, and later were sold by its distributor, the Winfield Arms Corporation. Some were simply marked MADE IN FRANCE on the right side of the slide, but fairly early this was changed to MADE IN FRANCE FOR W.A.C.  At some point (possibly as early as 1949) a WAC monogram was substituted for MAB on the grips. The WAC monogram was in sans-serif characters, but was not stylized like the MAB monogram.

The third known slide legend, probably applied soon after the post-war changes were made (observed in serial numbers 72311-91142), is in sans-serif characters on two lines with no accent marks, as follows:

PISTOLET AUTOMATIQUE MAB BREVETE
MODELE A

The fourth known slide legend (observed in serial numbers 200500-207369) is in sans-serif characters on two lines with no accent marks, as follows:

PISTOLET AUTOMATIQUE MAB BREVETE - S.G.D.G.
MODELE A

Dating these pistols is difficult due to the poor records, but what we do know is that the last serial number sequence recorded was 208000 series serial numbers were being shipped in 1957.  This would lead me to believe that your gun is a post 1957 gun.

Sorry, but this is the best I can do based on the available information.

Regards,

Doug
