Old split cane fly fishing rods

Question
I have several old split cane fishing rods and want to enquire about there value.  They are as follows:
Martin James "Greaves" (Redditch England) 3 piece, 10ft
Forshaws of Liverpool "Silvercrest" 3 piece, 12.5 ft
Hardy Perfection #5 Palakona, 2 piece, 9ft (original cloth case)
C Farlow & Co. London "the farlight" No. 2961, 3 piece, 9.5 ft

Answer
Hi Wayne,

I am going to be of limited help only on these rods.  I don't have much information on the rods made in the UK.

Martin James "Greaves" (Redditch, England) - I can't find any information on this rod.

Forshaws of Liverpool "Silvercrest" - I do not find any information on this rod.  However, I have been asked about Forshaws rods in the past and I do know that this was a custom rod maker in Liverpool that seems to have made high quality rods, but possibly limited in the number of rods produced.  I could be all wrong on this, but this is my best guess for now.

Hardy Perfection #5 Palakona - There seems to be a fairly wide variety of configurations for the Palakona models from Hardy and I do not have a complete listing.  I would guess the value on this rod to be in the $350-$500 range.  Bear in mind this is only a guess and the value could easily be less or more depending on scarcity of the model and actual condition.

C. Farlow & Co., London, "The Farlight" - My reference materials do not indicate a "Farlight" model, but they are not complete listings.  Longer Farlow rods tend to run in the $250-$550 range depending on actual condition and scarcity.

There is an online discussion board at www.classicflyrodforum.com that deals with vintage bamboo rods.  Posting a few questions on that board might locate soemone with specific knowledge of your rods.

Thanks,  Joe
