heddon #17 Bamboo Rod

I have a Heddon Rod with #17 on it. The handle is lime green. The rod is natural finish and all the wrappings are black. How do you determine the the rod length?
Can you tell me anything about the rod and who old it is.

This question is better answered by Joe Douglas on this site.  

I know that the #17 Black Beauty is a sought after rod amongst collectors.  If you have the bag and tube, it could be worth $300-500
depending on the condition.  I think it's a 9 footer.  

Joe would be able to date it better for you.  I'm guessing late 40's to early 50's.
