Risks of Exceeding Your Fishing Reel's Line Rating

i was wondering what if any are the negatives if you put a higher lb test then it is recommened on a fishing reel?

There is a reason that the rod companies put a line rating on a rod. If you exceed the rating you can over stress the rod and break it. Ideally if you put enough pressure on a rod the line should break before the rod will. Just like there is a line rating there is a lure rating on a rod because you could over stress the rod by casting too much weight
