Antique Bamboo Fishing Rods: A Collector's Guide (Under $300)

Question
I have a friend who would like to start collecting antique bamboo rods.  Although he is a licensed sea captain, he isn't limiting himself to saltwater.  Which rods should I be looking at to enhance his collection.  I haven't nor do I think it's in that cards that I'll be hitting the lottery anytime soon, so please suggest something under $300.00.

May I suggest a book which has prices in it , so when you wonder into a rod you know if you are getting a bargain or ripped off.

If you are investing for resale value you need to buy bamboo trout fly rods , avoiding casting/bait rods.
