Daiichi Bleeding Bait Circle hooks for Crappie

Question
You had mentioned previously that you recommend circle hooks for crappie and especially the Daiichi Bleeding bait circle.  My question is, what size would you use?  The smallest I've seen is a #1.  Would'nt this normally be too big for a papermouth?

Answer
Steve,
In most cases you would be correct on the number 1 being too large.  However, according to Ron Stallings of TTI (manufacturer of Daiichi), the circle hooks are a little different.  He and his brother, TJ, use the number 1 for crappie.  Ron said the gap between the point and shank is about the same as a number 4 aberdeen hook.

Another line of hooks carried by TTI is the Mr. Crappie brand.  Ron recommends that you take a look at those to see if there is anything of interest.  In fact, my neighbor, who is an avid crappie angler, ordered a bunch of these hooks in the Blood Red models.

Hope this answers you question, and if you have any further don't hesitate to ask.

Best of fishing,
Dan
