split bamboo fly rod ?

Question
I have a hand made rod with no name or weight markings on the rod. The rod is light brown in color and 8' in length.  The rod has 3 sections; the top section has #4# eyes #wrapped with dark brown and orange thread#, the middle section #2# eyes, the bottom eye #1# eye.  The rod has a glossy clear coat finish with no splits or cracks.  The handle is cork with a silver or chrome real but where the reel mounts to the rod.  The rod has been stored in a grey pvc tube with a screw on lid and chain, labeled Kent Scale-??.  The tube has a fix scale the length of the tube.

Answer
Hi Danny,

Is the rod split bamboo, fiberglass or graphite? If the rod is six sided, it is likely bamboo.  If it is round, it could be either glass or graphite...or even a vey early bamboo rod.  What type of ferrules does it have?  What does the reel seat look like...sliding band, uplocking, downlocking, screw tightener?  Is there a separate butt cap?  How wide are the cork rings....1/4" ;  1/8" ;  1/2"  ;  1" ?  How long is the cork handle?

I would guess the inscription is either the original owner or the rod builder.  I am not familiar with Kent Scalexx??...but I certainly don't know every rod builder out there.  I'll do some research on that while you answer the questions and we'll go from there.  If you have or can take a picture of the rod, send it to [email protected] and I'll review it for you.

Thanks,  Joe
